My 350 in my 76 3/4 ton is fading fast. I have a chance right now
to get a 86 350 out of a police impala with 110K. My question is I sure
it is a 1 piece rear main, but will she bolt right up to all my 76 stuff? re: Turbo 400 etc.. it has all the AC pump, smogg junk etc.., but must be that
last or close to the last year for carburator cuz that's what she has stock.
I plan to strip it down with re:getting rid of all AC and smog junk.
"will the 86 bolt right in where my 76 350 is? everything?
thank you
Yes it`ll bolt in. You will have to use the flexplate and starter with the 86 engine. If the 86 engine has a carb it`s a feedback Quadrajet. Do not use this carb as it will not operate correctly without the computers function. You`ll also want to use the `76 HEI. When you pull the `86 out make sure you install a new timing chain. The stock chain will be shot and leaving it on will cost you power and mileage. You can get a double roller unit at the parts store for around $40, make sure you lube it with moly lube. Changing the timing chain will also give you the option to drop the oil pan and clean it out real good before installing it.
The guy I am getting it from says it still has the HD hoses which
are green for police use or something stock.
Why change out the timing chain are they nylon geared or something?
I do plan on using my HEI, carb, intake, but other than that she
should be a no brainer? Basically all I am going to use is the long block
only. I will swap out all my stuff if all accessory hole are the same.
Are these thing inherient for bad chains or???
DoubleVision/Chevrolt thanks another ?? 85 to 76 350
Are the head ports and intake holes alignment the same as
70's 350's. Basically will my intake off my 76 350 bolt onto this 86 350?
Is everything the same??? does this have the center valve cover bolts or
standard 4 hold downs? Anything you could tell me would be great. Hear all
the horror stories of wrong alignments, cooling holes etc..
putting the older intake on does that mean 76 intake gaskets or 86 intake gaskets? etc..
THANKS !!!
I just crossed the casting and the vin pad numbers
and it turns out it is a 1971 Chevelle, El Camino or Impala
280 horse 350 and ys she is a 010
Really smoking bad, not sure if it is rings or valve seals and or guides.
questioning rings becasue she has plenty power. Probably has old
seats not working too good with the unleaded gas.
