78-87 Pontiac Grand Prix, Chev Monte Carlo, Chev el camino, Chev Malibu, Buick Regal, Grand National (8.5") and 442/ Hurst Olds (8.5"). The rear ends from these cars are a drop in. If you get a 8.5" you will need the matching drive shaft as well. If your just looking to swap the ring and pinion. S10s, Camaros and Firebirds(82 and up) had a 7.5" rear end so the internals will work.

dont forget the B body cars impala and caprice 90% of them had the 7.5" so as long as they were not 9C1 or 9C6 or trailer package with rear sway bar setup.
those were 8.5" with truck 5 on 5" bolt pattern like the old big boat 70s cars like the big pontiacs and the electras and such, and all the wagons all years too.

as for the rear axle assembly swapping, only G body 78-up will fit and bolt in yours and very rarely was there an 8.5" excpet in a few special models such as the turbo regal, GN, and such, and were nice deeper ratio 3.73 typically but they are high dollar and everyone wants one and so demand is extremely high and supply is next to non existent,

so be prepared to pay alot for one of these 8.5 axles if you can actually find one

there are several threads about the 8.5" 78-up G body axles on here very recently, do a search and you will see much more to read and learn.

good luck

Is there a reason people like to repeat information that has been outlined in the previous post. Or do people just not read the thread?
