86 K10 engine swap! swap tranny too?

I have an 86 chevy k10 pickup that i wish to replace the engine in. i have bought a donor car for engine/tranny if possible. The car is a 1994 fleetwood caddy with an iron head lt1 in it, also has 4l60e. I am definitely replacing the engine from the 305 carb to the lt1, i am also looking to upgrade the transmission. is this worth my time? I understand i would have to change the tailshaft to make it compatible with a 4x4 application, and find an adapter plate to connect the 4l60e to the np208 transfer case. is there anything else to look for there? any suggestions, should i stick with 700r4? is there an aftermarket adapter to connect the 4l60e to the old transfer case? is the output shaft the same spline between the 700r4 and the 4l60e? how will the speedo work with the 4l60e since it is sensor fed instead of cable driven? I am new with the post, be gentle

4l60 e is electronically controlled(newer version of 700r4) get a carbed intake and drop the lt1 in so that you dont have to monkey with computers and get more power.

not sure where you found the faulty information at...

that year 4L60E and the 700/4l60 are the same at the back end of the main case.... it all bolts up the same.

As you mention you need the 4x4 output shaft in the 4l60E trans... the output shaft from the 1986 trans will FIT the 4l60E trans.. the 4L60E shaft will not function in the 1986 700/4L60.

The speed-O should be driven off the transfer case
