86 silverado 305

I've got a Chevy 305 in a 86 Silverado, i'll have about 300 dollars at the lest and 840 at the most to do modifications to it. I was wondering what i should do to it to get it at least to burn all the Ricers in town

Well the first thing you will need is more money. You're not going to be beating much with a 305 in a full size truck. The first thing you need to have done is headers and a free flowing exhaust. That will burn up your $300 and then some.

take your 300 dollars and buy spark plugs, spark plug wires, a new rotor for the distributer, a new air filter, 6 quarts of oil, a can of seafoam, and an oil filter. ahh the list goes on and on... make sure its running right first. my 305 was a dog when i got it. 950 dollars later its still a dog.... as for burning ricers shouldn't be to hard as long as the sound from the fart can doesn't scare you.

Beware, some ricers are faster than they appear. And remember your trying to pull all that weight with the 305. They may only have half the HP but chances are they also have half (if not less) the weight.

Start with a nice tuneup and then goto exhaust like Ghetto Jet said. Other than Nitrous its probably going to be your best bang for the buck.

Dont try to beat the ricers, join them, I put a 403 Olds in a 85 Toyota Celica have more fun that its not legal. Put your 305 in 1200lbs rice rocket and blow the doors off most Japs. Or take your money and find a big block and crop it in your4000lbs truck eather way just have fun, no one will even know in 100 years. Good Luck J.F.

Use your cash first towards some gears, gears are the best bang for the buck as a first step.

Forgot about those. What would you suggest for him? Some 3.73 or 4.11 or something even more?

I went from a 3.07 ( or close to that) to 4.11 on my 87 silverado. it made a huge difference. I also had the 305. I wouldn't spend any money on the engine except parts that can swap over to a 350. I'm planning on putting a 383 in it when the funds are there.

1st off remember those ricers are only moving in 2nd and 3rd gear and in the long haul most run in the 16`s. My niece has a really fun car to drive, a real low mitsubeshi and a stick...it is alot of fun!!!........but VERY limited.

The 305 needs 2 mods. ...already spoken. Exhaust and gears, NO MORE. Been there done that. The exhaust and gears will make the car or truck move faster. You can go all out and do turbos and high priced machine mods but for that engine but if your in that price bracket you go to a bigger engine.

Do not bother with the other engine mods on a 305. You can change the intake or carb and the car will run much better but it will not be faster. Been there.

Good luck!

Save the truck for work, get something lite for racing.
Like an old Chrysler turbo 4 cyl, and turn up the boost.
