One problem is the 7.5 rear end is inherently weak. There was a limited amount of G-body cars that got the corporate 8.5" 10-bolt, but they're scarce and expensive.
Otherwise, any V8 GM engine w/the possible exception of the Caddy is a bolt in. GN Buicks are well known to haul-A, there were Hurst Olds options through the years, there are G-body forums devoted to just that car. Good luck. |

I had a '79 T-type turbo, ran ok...then we bought an '86 T- type, man what a difference. It was amazing how fast a car that size could run with a 231" V-6 turbo. I got to take a ride in a "breathed on" '87 GNX, yea Cobalt, what you said...that thing was VERY fast and they had their own distinctive exhaust note, love to have another.
Hicks...I would ask you to keep it Buick, see www.taperformance.com, they deal in nothing but *** kicking torque monster Buick engines. They may be able to advise you on what it would take to install one. Think about it...a 480" stroker big block Buick...built T-400, 12 bolt with 4:56 gears. Can anyone say...Wheels up!! |
