Oh cool, i've never seen that before. I assume 86 was still fully V-belted and 88 was full size serpentine with automatic tensioner?

All car/truck '86-87 Chevy V8's have this partial v-belt/serpentine belt combo, maybe even some 85's(Monte SS and Caprice). Not sure about the '88-89 Caprice, but all '88 trucks have the long serpentine with tensioner .The serpentine belt runs around the alternator, waterpump, and crank in place of what would normally be a v-belt, no automatic tensioner, you have to tension it just like a v-belt, the brackets are the same a v-belt, only the pulleys are different. We go looking for these pulleys for cheap race use, it is almost impossible to throw a serpentine belt, a lot harder to throw than a v-belt.

I'd like to have a full serpentine system for my 79. (Course I also want a TBI setup and a 4L80E too).

Any idea if the holes are there on a 70s 454 to mount the late 80s full serpentine setup with?

Yep, uses the same holes that have been there since the beginning of the Mark IV line in 1965.

Don't you just love Chevrolet interchangability
