87 Ford AXOD Trans

Need some help please. The AXOD trans in my 87 Taurus just started blowing stinky white smoke. I believe its burning auto transmission fluid. Car was very recently added as cheaper transportation. I serviced the tranny w/ new filter and fluid and it worked. However, it seems to slip some occasionally at lower speeds. Now with this smoking problem it leads to believe I now have a bad modulator valve on the transmission. I don't know where or even if this unit has a modulator valve. I went looking for a replacement modulator valve and couldn't even find a source to obtain one. Any ideas? Problem or Source?

The AXOD does not use a modulator, instead it uses a cable as a load sensor, [ for line pressure rise ].

I would suspect an inconvenient catastrophic failure, related to the engine.

After all, remember, it is a Ford.
