87 grand prix and 400??

I wanted to know how easy itd be to throw a 400 in my 87 Prix. MY dad built one a long time ago and it had 389 heads and so and so forth but he said stay away from 75 and newer 400 block. but i would like to know if it can be done and what would be the best tranny setup. IM new to this site and happy to be a member.
