88 GT brake fade
I have an 88 Mustang GT and lately I have been getting terrible brake fade if I run it hard and use them. To the point where at times I don't have brakes. Is there anything I can do with the factory system or do I need to go bigger and better and maybe a four wheel disc system?

There are several ways to improve the braking on the MUSTANG. The best is to convert to SN-95 brakes. But you can also save bucks by going to larger front rotors/calipers and larger rear drum brakes. All of this information should be found here in the knowledge base. Any trouble, get back.

You could have contaminated fluid, brake fluid collects moisture , water boils at 212 ,causing steam to form in the system, thus giving a no brake situation. try really cleaning out the system and fill with new fluid, switching the type of pads your using[spring for primium quality at your local parts store] and the fade should be greatly reduced Good luck

What kind of pads? I tried Raybestos metallics in my Nova, & they fade worse than the OEM pads, which were useless over 50mph or so. I've been using Albany metallics (from A.Zone) in my '88 T-bird & they work remarkably well, considering it weighs almost 4000# & has the little 10" discs.

You may have bad fluid also, you would be amaized how fast and how much moisture brake fluid will grab out of the air, the water works its way down the system and boils in the calipers causing what you may be calling fade, fluids cheap try it

Ya if the brake system is dramatically worse than it originally was then there is a reason for it I'd do as fire power suggested and change the brake fuild as it absorbs moisture with time, then I'd check out the pads and the shoes for contamination such as brake fuid on the linings which can cause brakes to be very ineffective when they got warm
