89 700r won't shift into third

Hello all , I got my 77 rolling well I been driving it these last couple.days, been driving good almost 250 miles well after a 30 mile drive today I stopped for a minute then started moving again shifted fine first and second but when it went to shift to third it started to slip then acted like neutral I checked fluid out seems good could I hadn't fried it pleasr someone hellppp I've put so much time in truck was wondering if the b n m lockup kit I got could messed something up but it was locking up just fine, maybe t v cable bad ote out of adjustment , of almost forgot when I was up yo highest speed and went wot it wouldn't downshift at all

from what i can tell by what your describing, it probably has fried the 3-4 clutch pack from the lack of tv pressure. if while driving and the trans is in 4th gear, if you floor it for downshift, it should be able to get a 4-2 downshift up to around 50 mph depending on rear gear ratio.

Ok thank you for you amswer I was hoping I didn't mess up tranny is this pretty simple to fix does anyone have some pics or diagrams of how to replace clutch packs and go threw tranny and change any other weak links. I hate learning by breaking something thank you for you're answers

Ok I tried to readjust the tv cable same problem no third so I'm pulling the tranny can someone please please point me in the right direction I'm relly broke right now and this is my only other ride besides my wifes car.

Ok well I pulled the transmission out. fluid was, badly burnt , little gritty piecs in pan and the magnet had gunk all on it.. This is my first teardown snt advice

Can some one, help please

I'm looking to rebuild it myself been doing alot of reading on it I dunno why I can get any replies but I'm a really hard worker just times are bad right now I'm to broke to ost for someone to do it so I came here for some good advice I know it won't be easy but I have no other option I know I needa get a book for it
