89 honda accord, headlights wont work...and...

I gave this car to my neighbor, its a 1989 Honda accord, 4 door, 5speed, 2.0L carbed)

It has pop up lights. I turn the headlights on and the wont work, if i pull back on the switch and hold it the highbeams work, but i have nothing for the lowbeams. Fuses look good.

The other problem, when i turn the lights off the headlights are suppost to retract....they dont.
I can get them to go in if i push the button ppl use to leave them up when the turn the lights off. (I turned the button off and tried it, and i had the button on and tried the lights and they wont work with the lights) the only way i get them to go down is press this button.

The taillamps, sidemarkers, gauge lights, and the door chime are all on also, the door chime makes noise, like you left your lights on(this is all with the key removed and the light switch turned off.

Is my guess right? I think it needs a headlight switch inside the column?

BTW the reverse lights work.

I know this may sound odvious but , make sure the bulbs are good.I have seen more than one with both bulbs blown. If they are good, it does sound like the headlight switch since you can move it and get high beams. And that might be the problem with the retraction part. Also on these the wires would break where the headlights move up and down. Most the time you will have a open fuse but not always.
If it is the switch it easy to replace.

Well i put a junk yard combination switch in it and the low beams and high beams work and stay on like they are suppost to, EXCEPT i cant shut them off Now my turn signals dont work, i think a got a junk switch, most of the cars with the same switches, were already taken, makes me think they had problems with these.

I would just try a different switch first.I don,t remember an ignition switch causeing the problems you are having. You could try calling the dealer I can,t remember how much they cost. Carl
