'89 Nissan Hardbody Low RPM Engine Knock

In my 1989 Nissan D21 147000mi, During any drive time, when I take my foot off the accelerator, I hear a bottom end rapid knocking sound that gradually stops. I checked timing chain, and oil is good. Any suggestions?

I would think that if it was a knocking rod it would knock at any rpm.But with that many miles on it,it could be the beginning of a rocking nod.Maybe at a higher rpm your oil pressure is higher an helps to straighten out the rod.One way to check is to use a long screw driver put it against the bottom of the engine block, other end against your ear and you can hear if its knocking. My dad taught me that trick. Rocking nod mmmmmm.

Good idea. But I forgot to mention that I've done that already with my stethescope. The knocking is almost non existent until I drive it.

Actually its not really a knocking sound. More like a rattle.
