89 S10 wiring problem...... HELP!!

I need help!!!
1989 s-10 with a 4.3 (not original engine) was a 2.3 I bought it for $700 bucks and the 4.3 swap was already done. Anyway here we go
I pulled out the throttle body and the stock intake.
I replaced with Holly 4160 600cfm and Edelbrock performer intake. Install is done now.
I also yanked out the Air conditioner.
I also installed a Mr. Gasket mini fuel pump.
And replaced the old stock distributer with a vacuum advance distrib with the in cap coil.
This is my problem.
Im fishing around for hot wires to hook everything up.
I have the original coil hotwire hooked up to the new distributor so Im good there I THINK.
Now I need a good hot wire for the electric choke and the fuel pump.
Also I hooked it all up and got it to start but the timing was off and back firing was bad.
After a real loud backfire from the carburetor it seems the linkage is loose and when you press the gas it wont return rite. Did the back fire damage the carb? HELP
My e-mail is glazelab1@yahoo.com if anyone wants to help with my issues.

No a backfire cannothurt your carb, however, Sometimes a backfire can blow off Vacum lines, makin the engine SLOWLY idle down, AND not all the way down.... Give it a look....
