oklowride,
Remove 4 bolts on axle retaining ring, pull out axle (no c-clip). After both are removed the third member will come out, it is a tight fit so you will have to wiggle it out. Watch out when it comes free, it weighs about 80lbs or so. Good Luck, AngliaBob PS Check this site out..it may help identify your Ford9. http://www.maliburacing.com/ford_9_i..._nine_inch.htm Last edited by M&M CUSTOM; 03-03-2005 at 07:20 PM. What AngliaBob said. The 4 bolts are behind the brake shoe assembly.
What makes the 9" nice is that you can get multiple center sections set up with different gear ratios and change your ratio in about a half an hour. Great for the track. |

A slide hammer should work if it's being stubborn. Shouldn't have to beat the snot out of it though, it's probably hung up on the seal.

got er done!
a little slide motivation popped them right out. now i know what it is but not where it came from. casting is C7AWE28, 28 spline 3.0 open diff i think the ring gear is actually 9.375? that website said big cars from 63-77? had them. i think so because it looks like the housing is opened up into the gasket surface with very little room but i could be wrong. do you measure from the farthest outer edges of the ring gear? i also found its not a tapered axle i realized from the pics on site its just how their made its definately not a tapered casing. the axles measure 20.5 from the backside to the end of splines and the bare housing measures roughly... 49. are they measuring with axles installed? that woul be much wider say 6 inches (guessing) looks like ill be ditching the open for a locker with a real gear ratio (3.0:1 = suck!)
