Can buy a ford rear axle from a L.T.D. dont know what year.
Can somebody translate the tag for me?

First line WF A-Z 5AC
Second line L00 9 854B

tag says....

should be one number before the L... probably a 3

3L00 9

3.00 ratio, L for limited slip, 9 for nine inch rear end

854B is date manufactured, year, month, and week of month

The first line WF A-Z is the axle model the 5AC is the date built code year- month- week. The second line I agree with xntrik that a letter is missing the first letter in the ratio is close to the tag bolt hole and sometimes hard to see.It is no doubt a 3 which would make it a 3.00 ratio traction-lok the 9 is ring gear diameter and the 854B is plant code. The first letter on the tag is not visible on the pictures sent to me.
But i understand it has to be a 3.
Anybody know if this axle has big or small end bearings, and 28 or 31 splines.
Sorry but i am not to good with the ford division.

It's probably a large bearing rear...But to know 28/31 spline you may have to pull the axle's and count the splines..There's no other sure way to tell.

You will have to measure the backing plate bolt pattern dimensions to determine the bearing size. There are 3 (THREE) different bearing sizes for 9 inch Ford rears in cars.

Look at the axle shaft ends that show through the center hole of the wheels. If the hole is a large rectangular oval, it is definitely NOT a 31 spline.

There is a lot of good information on the knowledge base on this site. (and some misinformation) Look there for general information. Google will also get you to tag id charts.
