90 suburbon 350turbo or 700r4

i got a 1990 suburbon4x4 lift kit , big meaty tires just purchased it with a cooked tranny .i'm getting mixed reveiws of which trans i should use? i can beef up the 700r4 thats already in it or i can convert to a 350. plan on just playin with the truck no daily driver. any ideas?

th400 may be a better choice, tough as 10 miles of bad dirt road.you just using for off road and a little on road to get to the off road??Brian

To install any trans besides the 700/4L60 type trans... you need a kit / parts to adapt in a t-350 or the t-400 trans..


T-350 and t-400 are different length from 700/4L60 ,

different spline diameter on the t-400, different bolt pattern on the rear of the t-400 case.

My guess would be that the trans got toasted because of the big tires and stock (3.08 maybe) gears. How big are the tires and what gears are in the axles?

Say stock was 3.08 gears and 31" tires
If it now has 38" tires you would need to change the gears to:

(38/31)*3.08= 3.77 gears. The closest to that ratio available would be 3.73 or 4.10 and I would choose the 4.10 gears.
