91 Pontiac

I am looking at a 91 Pontiac Trans Am online that I am thinking of purchasing. The guy tells me that the engine is strong but sometimes sputters. It will also die but start right up. Could this be simple plugs, wires or distributor or something more?

Sounds more like a fuel pump or filter.

I wouldn't say what is causing it with only that to go by, although a lot of guesses could be made.

If he's 'fessing up to this much, I'd be either going over it REAL well myself, or if I was unable- I'd take it to a good mechanic and pay him to diagnose exactly what is causing it and an estimate of what it'll take to fix it. And I wouldn't offer this info up to the seller, unless he's splitting the bill w/you.

Or- be prepared to buy someone else's headache.

Sounds Like My 1953 Chevy 210 I Can Go Down The Road About
A Mile Or Two And It Will Spit And Sputter Than Cut Off
But In My Case The Car Will Not Start Back Up I Rebuilt
The Pump Turned The In-line Filter Over And Rebuilt The Carb
But It Still Acts Up [????]

If you have a points distributor change the condensor. If not have you checked the fuel pickup sock in the tank?
