91 s-10 auto tranny

Hi this may sound dumb, but...is the outomatic tranny from a 91 s-10 a 700-r?
And if it is can it be made to be used in my 49 chebby on my 283 without all the fancy electronic stuff. Maybe there is a kit that bypasses a computer if that is the case.
Thanx in advance,...Brad...

youre trans is actually a 4l60e .e is for eltronic so it needs all the computer junk to operate. if you want a od trans you need to find a 88 or older 700

Did the computer control the transmission in 91? I may be wrong, but I thought that started with '94 up. In '91 it was just a 4l60, not the 4l60e. crosley and some others can answer this a whole lot better. Even if it is computer controled you can buy a kit that will make it work, only it is then manually shifted and down. Good luck.

racer rick ; your information is incorrect.... 1993 was the first year of the 4L60E trans. You want a 1988 - 1992 4L60 trans to build. In 1993 the vette and F body cars had non electronic 4L60 trans also

Prof. T. Soggmeyer;

IF the S-10 had a 4.3 V-6 , the trans will have the proper bell housing pattern for a V-8 chevy engine.

the 1991 S-10 would have a 4L60 non electronic controlled trans..... many companys offer a kit to lock up the torque converter clutch.

The TV cable on the trans is very important , must be hooked up and operate correctly .

s-10 trans

Thanx a million guys! It sounds to me like this is even a better trans than the 700 r. Any hints where these kits can be had?If I can talk the guy out of it, I'll get it. It ought to fit real nice between my 283 and 12 bolt. I just want a daily 49 3100 that I can feel good about.
Man this site rocks!!
Brad out.......
