91s-10 dash

customising 91s-10 truck in my collision repair class. Would like to change dash to something more custom. Could also fab my own. My question is has anyone changed out the gauage package to something different ,and try an keep the wiring the same. Do you have to go scratch on the wiring. any thoughts
