93 Toy P/U terrible gas mileage

1993 2wd rebuilt 22re with 5000 miles. It gets twice the gas mileage in town than it does on interstate. Where do I start looking for the problem? Thanks in advance Jumm.

actual mileage

lets start by stating actual mileage figures and not going by the gas gauge. the next step is to check initial and fully advanced timing numbers. if the timing is not advancing it will kill mileage. someone stated air filter, I would hope you've already checked the basics. fuel filter is important though they rarely plug on Japanese vehicles. so many factors involved in fuel economy - what have you looked at and/or tried already?

Some posters think they'll get attention with bold font, just the opposite, it's irritating, same as all caps.
