i have a 94 gmc suburban with a 5.7 tbi 4X4. My wife runs a salvage yard and has a 97 suburban 2X4 with 5.7 vortec. What will i have to swap to put vortec in 94. also if anywone could tell me the pros and cons. also pro and cons of putting carbs on both engines. thanks so much.

One problem with putting a carb on it is, in 1994 you would have a 4L60E, so you will need to add a TPS, and a return style regulator, other then that, i dropped in a Vortec 350 into my 1994 that used to have a 4.3L TBI, i went carb, here is a how-to on how to get the tranny to work.

http://www.gmt400.com/forum/showthre...-4L60E-Control.

I have also upgraded to a Holley 670 Street Avenger and im using the following kit for the TPS, VERY nice kit and only $150 with a TPS!

http://www.holley.com/534-202.asp

You will need to keep your VSS (In the tranny), CTS (The coolant sensor beside the thermostat on a TBI Intake) and use the above kit on a holley or fab one up like i dig for my Demon

Also, i would use a HEI Distributor, and take the Purple/White wire from your old Distributor plug and hook it up to the TACH side of the HEI.

VERY Worth while swap, you would have a hell of a time swapping to OBDII and a Vortec fuel system from the OBDI TBI System

Thanks for the advice FastOrange. I definetly need more power without too bad on the fuel cost(daily driver) I also have a 1978 chevy 397 small block. And ideas on the origin/horsepower. It's a long block in the back of a pickup at the junkyard. I could pick it up for next to nothing, if it's worth it. thanks again

i dont see why it would decrease power at all, if anything it might INCREASE it, my engine is far from stock so i cant really tell you.

but be warned, you will NEVER pass emissons with a carb swap.
