My daily driver, 94 full size Blazer, will back out of the drive fine. Put into drive and nothing, for about a minute then it engages. It also may do that on the first one or two stops. After that it shifts fine. I know it's cold (3 degrees) in Montana, but I keep thinking that something is stuck, but what?

hard internal seals would be my first guess.

Did the vehicle drive 'fine' till the real cold temps hit town?

Now that I'm getting a little older I don't move so well in the cold either.

You may have hard seals, fluid warms up expands the seals,I'm sure you have checked the fluid level,so I won't ask.

Tomorrow try pulling in into manual low,see if it moves then, please post back with results.

k5

try adding 1oz of good old brake fluid, soften up hard rubber and no damage to other parts as do many so called fix it in a can. oh by the way adding more than 1 oz will not do better things a little goes along way here . fluid level sounds to be low as others stated.

A quart of 10-40 motor oil may help too.

I'll start with a filter change and go from there. It did this twice in warm weather about 6 months ago. I was thinking that a valve or solenoid might be sticking.

you can completely unplug the electric from the tranny.... and it should go into gear (R or OD, D) quickly.

Although ... with the tranny unplugged.... it will default to 3rd gear .
