I have been having a problem lately with my 1994 olds 88. The transmission will drop out of overdrive after about 30 to 40 minutes when driving on the hwy. It seems to act up more if the weather is hot. Can anyone give me any suggestions. I am unable to take this car on long trips because of this. The transmission will only go in overdrive again if I stop the car for a while. But when I travel at hyw speeds again it will drop out of overdrive again after a short drive.

have you had car scanned for trouble codes yet? 94 not obd 2 but you will be able to obtain engine data stream and see what compute will command trans gears . sounds like 4th gear plates are gone buts thats only a guess without a test drive.... solenoids failure would lose 2 gears in most cases

In 94 if you experience a failure whether its a transmission or control problem the trans will default to second gear. if you sense that then there should be a corresponding code like a 26 for a quad driver and another code that homes in on the component that is causing the problem. sounds like a pcm problem as this is the time of year they like to fail with the heat and all.

wrong only some transmission will go to default this is not one of them.
