'94 Suburban Tranny Problems

I bought a '94 burban and I am feeling a bad vibration. It starts when I am in OD and downshift into drive. It almost feels like the driveshaft is out of balanced but not sure if thats the problem. When I put it in drive it does the same thing when it downshifts from drive to 2. Please let me know if it's something I can do or do I need a mechanic to look it over? Thanks Talonted

Does it only do it when you have to give it a little gas to get up an incline? If so, it is the torque converter doing it. What you are feeling is the converter coming unlocked. Mine does it too (96 suburban, 4L80E Auto). Not exactly sure why it does it, but it only occurs when the torque converter comes unlocked. Since that brings the RPM's up, it can easily be mistaken for a shift.

'94 Burban

Yes it does. It shakes the entire vehicle. I just give it more throttle just so it doesnt do more damage.

Mine only does it for a second while the converter is unlocking then it stops. But yes it vibrates hard. Kinda like running over those vibration strips on the side of the interstate, but a little worse.
