95 GEO PRISM Noises.

Hey dudes,

heres the prob,, my buddy has a 95 geo prism, it makes a rubbing/almost grinding noise when hes goin down the road. He thought it was from the engine.....But i narrowed it down to the tranny or cv joint when we went to the store for sum beer....
The noise increases and decreases as the mph goes up and down, not as the rpm differs,
Anyway it almost sounds like a tire rubbing on the inner fender or dead brake pads grinding (know its not the brake, i had him hit them and listened...no pull no sound when braking)......I know a few of you guys have geo's for parts runners and im hopin mabey someone might know what could be doing it.....

Sorry about the vague description, but thats all i have to go on, its not my car and this is the first time ive seen this buddy in a month....happens under acceleration...Im thinkiing the cv need replaced or a rebuild on the trans?? I looked, Its practically spotless under it, no oil at all only dust..it's real clean.

give me some ideas to throw at my buddy...he takes his stuff to the mechanic and i keep telling him he could save major $$$ doin this easy stuff himself or help from buddies..

unless i run into him tomorrow i doubt I'll see him for another week....but the ideas will help us get somewhere next time i see'em.

I dont know what tranny it is & i dont know what size engine it is..95 geo prism................practically hopeless. glad its not my car. any help tho appreciated
