96 454 compression

i have a 96 vortec 454 stock flat top pistons 2 valve relief and i am thinking the compression is 8.75.1 not for sure. My question is if i was to take off the vortec heads which is 100cc use an older set casting 3904390 ported and bowel work with big valves have them shaved 025" will it be possible to get 9.5.1 or higher

I'm thinking the spec on the 390 chambers is 98 and change, so what are you expecting gain by replacing 1996 technology with 1967 technology? Are you trying to gain some cr so you can use more cam?

I personally have not dealt with a '96 454 Vortec motor, so I don't know if the earlier heads will bolt to the block and seal all the water passages or not. Someone else will be along who has experience with them.
