96 caprice 8.5 swap to 86 caprice 7.5?

I have a 96 9c1 caprice with a 8.5 that I want to swap into a 86 caprice with a 7.5. Can anyone tell me what would each car need from each other to make the swap? I have both cars complete, but want to sell the 96 9c1 once I have the rear end from it. Do I have to swap driveshafts , proportional vavles, brake lines ect.........

What about swapping the entire frame?? I know it seems like a lot of work, but you will get a newer frame, good police suspension, brakes, etc all in one shot.

Lol,yeah a little more than what I could handle at the moment. Plus the 9c1 is a 4-door and my caprice is a 86 2-door coupe. I would just find a way to reinforce my frame and I have pretty much sold the 9c1, so I told the guy buying it that I would give him my old 7.5 and put in for him. The only difference I see is the disc to drum(which most civi caprice came with 7.5 drum anyway) and I think I've read something about the drive shaft being shorter on the 8.5, and the longer on the 7.5. I guess I won't know until the morning. I have two complete cars with all the parts I need to make it work. From what I could tell, its pretty much looks like a direct bolt up.I guess my main concern is the brakes and drive shaft. I know that the rear brakes can't have more pressure than the front or have larger calibers or it would stop real crazy!?!?!lol.

Hard to say if the driveshaft will swap, might not be the right length due to a different trans length also between the two cars. You might consider swapping master cylinder and prop valve too.

Might have been a mistake selling the 9c1, it would have given up a lot of nice parts for yours.

I beleive frames are the same as far as body mounting points, no difference between 2 and 4 door in the B-body's, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I know caprices up and down. The rear in your 96 is too wide. You'll. Need to track down a 8.5 out of a police package 77-90 caprice. 88-90 rears have 30 spline axles instead of the previous 28. The wagons had 8.5s but they are also wider.

Well, the 86 caprice rearend went into the 96 9c1 without any problems. Brakes work just fine, drive shaft fit, all was the same except the lug pattern. The 8.5 has the larger of the two. I measured the rears axel to axel and the 8.5 was wider, just like ghetto said. But with some space plates from jegs, you'll never even know. Thanks for the input guys. Now to put the 8.5 into the 86 2-door tomorrow. Hope it gose as well as the 7.5,lol...........
