How many miles on it?

Has it had timing belts replaced?

Were the spark plug holes full of oil?

A few things come to mind for starters, vacuum leak, egr, but it could be allot of things. I recommend checking for codes to get you in the right direction.

Way overdue for cam belts, they are like an every 60-80 thousand mile item with this engine.

Distributor cap will cause 1 cylinder not to fire. They break internally. I would also double check your firing order, it is easy to make a mistake. Also look at the inside of the cap for oil, if the seal in the distributor has gone bad it will leak oil into the cap and cause all sorts of issues.

I've got a 93 MX-6 with a 2.5. If this is the same motor, it might have a bad distributor. They have the cam sensor, ignition module and coil all built into the disty. It's a common problem with them.

It is very similar to the Honda setups. The cap and oil seals are real common issues
