I'm sure the 97 does have anti lock brakes, I think in the rear. Probably a sensor is out causing the light to go on.

new brakes all around., fluid good,

yellow ABS light,
not the red brake light

although the red brake light was on, but i just pulled the fuse for brake and it went out

there are no wheel sensors and no ABS unit that i can recognize anywhere, or at least not one i have ever seen one of. only the prop valve below the master cylinder.

lines runs straight to the prop valve and wheels.
there is a wide oval wiring plug with four wires, red, black yellow, and blue.
two round steel dome shaped things underside of the prop valve.

only the rear lines run through it.,

no wheel sensors anywhere, and the only sensor anywhere is in the axle pumpkin

ABS scan tool does nothing on this truck, yet it works fine on any other vehicles,.

operating error and check connection is all it will say,.

thanks again

You put the fuse back in when you plugged the scanner in right.

found out that in 97 you cant use a scan tool

have to connect two connectors underdash together and count flash code of the abs lamp

wow...

never expected that one

also found out that sensor in the rear axle pumpkin is real common to die in these.
and dirt cheap

so yeah i guess it really does have abs but only for the rear lines and ive never seen one like this before, that i can recall, hmmm

quotes:

97 abs systems use a lamp flash for codes, look under glove box for a tan and black connector,
ground the black conn end and count lamp flashes, will be easier to pinpoint problem.

Check the ABS sensor on top of the rear end. Mine did the same thing and I changed that and it fixed it
The dealer said they go out all the time. Only cost about 10 or 20 bucks and took about 5 minutes
to change. Hope this helps

I wonder if the scanner you were using was not compatible with you truck. I know some of them only cover certain systems or years of vehicles.
