98 chevy truck transmission issue

HI everyone so here is my issue I have a 1998 chevy silverado 1500 z71 5.7 4x4. I am having issues with transmission that I believe is a 4l60e.
OK so I can shift the shifter into reverse but dont feel the truck go into gear. I can drive forward upto hy-way speeds but the engine will get up in the rpms about 3200 at 55 and stay there only going down as I let off the throttle I belive I can feel 3 gears this truck shifts smooth no slipping or thunking into gear I have climb underneath to check the basics the only thing I found is a small black hose cut in an angle that does not appear to hook up to anything I can see this on the drivers side towards back of transmission. I do have a 1992 surburban with a 700r4 in that works are these two transmissions interchangable. Thanks for any advice I can get.

common 4l60 failure there a planatary called the sun gear shell that strips or breakes u lose 2nd 4th and reverse usually u can hear a noise in the tranny also so its a internal problem needing rebult . As for the 700r to make it work in a 98 would not be feesable it will bolt up mounts and bell housing are the same but yours being a vortec doesnt have a place to mount a tv cable and without the 4l60 plugged in it have a check engine light and drivability concerns if it was a 95 back with a tbi u could get away with it with only a check engine light
