Post 98 Vortec 454 hopup

My son and I have access to the subject engine at a very reasonable price. It has about 25,000 miles on it. It also has all the accessories, fuel injection, wiring harness and computer. It had a stick trans behind it in the original 98 3/4 ton truck. We would like to use it in a 69 Chevy pickup that we have just redone. Currently it has a 95 300 HP 350 crate engine that that has been modified some which should have 330 to 350 HP. It also has a built vacuum controlled 700R4, 2800 flash converter and 373 open rear. We plan to add posi at some time also.

My question is what kind of HP can we get out the 454 by changing the cam and maybe doing some head work and a good set of headers? I have been told that the stock heads aren't good for hot rodding. If we put some aluminum heads and bigger cam will the fuel injection support them? I have also been told that there must be a late model magnetic pickup (speed sensor) in the transmission. Will we be able to use the 700R4 we have by doing some minor modifications. One other thing, we are considering forced induction sometime in the future.

Would you take a different approach in modifying the engine. Any suggestions/recommendations would be very helpful in making a decision as to whether to use this engine or not.

This is about the 5th forum and no replys. Help
