???about a411-or 373 gear?

I was wondering how much difference is a 373 from a 411 ratio,
i have a 272 gear in right now but i need a high gear for my engine so it will perform right. i use to have the 411 in but i wasent crazy about how high the engine rpm was when i was driving it. so i called jegs to order a 373 and he said i should use the 411 and put taller tires on the back..does that sound right and if so, will that make it close to a 373 gear ratio with taller tires. thanks robbie

Ive got 28" tall tires with 4.11s, gonna switch to 3.73s. If I never went on the hiway the 4.11s would be fine. & I dont go on the hiway all that often, but when I do I want to be able to cruise @ 70-80 without the engine reving so high

What are you driving and what kind of driving do you plan on doing with this vehicle?
What size tires do you have on it now and what are the RPM's at highway speed, and where do you want the RPM's to be with what size tires, and what transmission do you have so we can figure final drive ratio, overdrive or not?
A few small details make the difference.

If you already had 4.11's in the car and didn't like it, do you really want to try them again? Taller tires will help , but not much. I used to run 3.73's with a 27 inch tire and TH350, and it would do about 3000 rpm @ 65mph. Like M&M said, we need to know you're combination. What car, tire size, engine, trans. I've always found that gear ratios are a compromise unless you run an overdrive. I installed a tremec 5 speed a few years ago, and it was worth every penny.

Using your tire size which equated to 25.5 inches in diameter,
and your third gear transmission ratio of 1 to 1, I give you the results.

with 2.7 gears
you will run 1972 RPM's at 55 MPH

with 3.08 gears
you will run 2233 RPM's at 55 MPH

with 3.42 gears
you will run 2480 RPM's at 55 MPH

with 3.73 gears
you will run 2705 RPM's at 55 MPH

with 4.10 gears
you will run 2973 RPM's at 55 MPH

I used this link to calculate your tire diameter

I used the calculator at this link to figure the ratios.

Sorry I forgot you need a plug-in to view that particular site.

Using the 275/50/15 tire that measures 25.8 inches in diameter.

You now have at 55 miles per hour the following engine speed with the listed ratios.

4.10 2938 rpm
3.73 2673 rpm
3.55 2544 rpm
3.42 2451 rpm
3.08 2207 rpm
2.73 1957 rpm

Changing to a 235/60/15 which measures 26.1 inches in diameter will give you.

4.10 2905 rpm
3.73 2643 rpm
3.55 2515 rpm
3.42 2423 rpm
3.08 2182 rpm
2.73 1934 rpm

Going WAY up to a 30 inch diameter tire will give these results.

4.10 2527 rpm
3.73 2299 rpm
3.55 2188 rpm
3.42 2108 rpm
3.08 1898 rpm
2.73 1683 rpm
