About to paint my car

Hello everyone,
i am new to your forums. I am 36 years old, and am currently restoring an 89 Camaro for my wife. about 19 years ago, in the late 80's, was the last time i did any bodywork. We decided this summer that i would like a new project. This is where i am at, i did all the bodywork on the camaro, and jambed the car with Dupont Centari Acrylic Enamel (i know most people would say dont use this, but this was the stuff i used 18 years ago so i was familiar with it). I have another gallon of Centari, in Code 65 Hugger orange that i am about to apply. I want to know, should i put a clear coat over this after i paint it, and if i should, what brand or type should i use. The jambs came out great, nice and glossy as is, but if i can do anything to improve the look and durability, i would like to do it. I already have all the Ae materials here, so i am sticking with that, but any advice is appreciated.

You can spray a urethane clear over the centari if you let the enamel cure up some, any urethane clear will work. Let that Centari cure up for a week then lightly scuff it and shoot on your clear. DuPont also had a clear designed for use with Centari and they called it a 2000 pack, not sure if it's still available but it was sprayed wet on wet over the paint.

Sweet, I'm a fellow G3 Camaro (83 Z28 w/350TBI & T56) owner. Yes, I would certainly clear over the Centari. Red/orange is one of the worst colors, when it comes to fading. Most all clears contain UV protection to prevent fading. I assure you if you leave that Hugger Orange Centari in the sun without clear, it will turn to a funky coral or some other undesirable orangish color.

Good Luck!

more info

Can you please shed more light on this ultra pack? Is this applied immediately after the color coat, while it is still wet? I see an item on the website, 1K pak, says to mix 3 parts centari to 2 parts 1K reducer. Not sure if this is what you are talking about.
