AC and crank pulley

I have a 78 Monte Carlo 383 small block daily driver. The AC has been converted to R134. Since then, I have replaced the compressor twice. One mechanic thinks my crank pulley is too big. It's a 3 grove (long neck water pump) 7 and 5/8 inch pulley. I think the original 305 small block is 6.6 inches. Do I have to swap out the pulley? Is anyone running a 383 small block with AC and the larger pulley? Any advice much appreciated.

What failed on the compressor and how was it converted.
All rotational parts are designed to work in a certain rpm range. You have changed the rpm range quite a bit with that larger pulley.
I have also seen many r134 conversions done wrong, wrong oil, wrong orifice etc.

I don't know exactly what elements of the compressor failed except to say that it seized up on the highway with a howl. I pulled over and cut the AC belt off.
