acrylic lacquer vs clear coat

I find the acrylic lacquer much easier to contend with than clear, but clear buffs out nicer, can I shoot clear over the acrylic, why does my acrylic cause the paint to wrinkle (only in very, very small areas, quite anoying really on an otherwise primo job.)

The best I can remember lacquer base and lacquer clear are about the same it has been 20 years since I have used lacquer but as far as wrinkling goes if you are using a cheap thinner that is hot will cause a problem always use a good thinner

Using a urathane clear over lacquer will cause all sorts of problems ...same with uarthane primers over lacquer primers ....the catalized materials will seal in the solvents of the lacquer ,trapping them ...I dont of anyone that uses lacquers anymore...

My body man told me he couldn't even BUY lacquer products any more. I know the poly basecoat clearcoat stuff sprays really nice because I did a car with it a few years back. They are using WATER based now, with a poly (I think) clearcoat. A body man told me the equipment is expensive.

It's getting real hard to find a lacquer thinner high enough quality
to spray lacquers with. I spray my furniture & woodwoorking projects
with lacquer and now only use urethane reducer to thin it down.
I was told to use that by a guy that knows paint chemistry real well
and sure enough it works much better.
I did some lacquer touch-up work on a show car that was lacquer
and the customer supplied the color and clear in lacquer, he got
it at PPG. I thinned it with urethane reducer and it worked great.
It's all I'll use now for lacquer.
