acrylic panels for door?
At the upholstery supply shop this weekend, got all my vinyl, chip board, etc. They didn't have any foam board. They recommended a 4x8 black sheet of acrylic instead. They claim it will heat bend just fine and would make good door panels. $40 a sheet is what they sell it for, less 30% for the sale they're having. I haven't found anyone locally who stocks foam board and I was going to just get luan plywood, but I've got a section of cab in my 48 F1 pickup that needs a pretty good bend. Any thoughts on the acrylic sheet, or do I need to continue the hunt for foam board?

I've bent smaller acylic sheets just using a heat gun. It might be a trick on something that big but if it can be done on smaller areas, should be OK.

Acrylic would work, but it is heavier and forms at 350 degrees. PVC foamboard is a far better choice and forms at a much lower temperature. The price is good, I pay $28 for a sheet of foamboard, which is what your cost would be on the acrylic.
How about A&C Plastic products, and Colorado Plastic Products, both in Colorado Springs? |
