Question Acrylic Urethane Prices and Alternatives

I got a price of $360 for a gallon of Dupont ChromaOne acrylic urethane (single stage). The color is a Grabber Orange and is a non-metallic shade used on 1970 Mustangs. Does that sound like a lot for that? Iíve used only acrylic enamels in the past and want to try something new but I think the enamel would run less than half of the price I was quoted. Would another brand be cheaper than the Dupont?

This topic has been done to death. Do a search on the board. In short, yes that sounds very high for that paint. Premium urethane clears are approaching $200/gallon but colors are still around $100. Consider Nason which is Dupont's economy brand, about half price, but has the same quality a the big name stuff.

When I painted my moms car a year ago I used PPG Urethane Enamel in red. One gallon of paint was $160, $30 for a gallon of reducer and $50 for a quart of hardener. I think $360 for the paint alone is a little high, even for Dupont.

Angry

Iíve been reading through searches for the past 3 hours and it seems that my question was about the price on the ChromaOne Acrylic Urethane or equivalent and not An Acrylic Enamel. Nason I believe is acrylic enamel, correct? So willys36, you are suggesting that I move down from the Centari that I have been using to the Nason instead of moving up to the ChromaOne? The price for my color in the Centari Acrylic Enamel is about $130 a gallon.

For the color and the quality, it does not sound high to me.
You might check the price on concept with PPG and being in the NJ area you my try to find some U-Tech 3.8 polyurethane its good single stage. but would be about $200 for kit.
I would stick with one of the above for quality.

No Nason makes a whole range of paint types. Can't even sell acrylic enamel in California unless you want to be a guest of the state for 5 to 10 - it's illegal. I just did my pickup in custom mixed white-white (zero tint, just pure white) and Ford zinc yellow base coat/clear coat catalyzed urethane. Quality-wise, color-wise, and every-other-wise I can't tell it form the $$$$$$ stuff. Story my paint supplier tells me is that it is exactly the same as expensive DuPont except they aren't as anal about the color so color matching is difficult if you need to patch.
