Guys, you really don't know about active diffs? Good morning!

from Wikipedia:

Active differentials
A relatively new technology is the electronically-controlled active differential. A computer uses inputs from multiple sensors, including yaw rate, steering angle, and lateral acceleration and adjusts the distribution of torque to compensate for undesirable handling behaviors like understeer. Active differentials used to play a large role in the World Rally Championship, but in the 2006 season the FIA has limited the use of active differentials only to those drivers who have not competed in the World Rally Championship in the last five years.

Fully integrated active differentials are used on the Ferrari F430 and on the rear wheels in the Acura RL.

The second constraint of the differential is passive – it is actuated by the friction kinematics chain through the ground. The difference in torque on the tires (caused by turns or bumpy ground) drives the second degree of freedom, (overcoming the torque of inner friction) to equalise the driving torque on the tires. The sensitivity of the differential depends on the inner friction through the second degree of freedom. All of the differentials (so called “active” and “passive”) use clutches and brakes for restricting the second degree of freedom, so all suffer from the same disadvantage – decreased sensitivity to a dynamically changing environment. The sensitivity of the computer controlled differential is also limited by the time delay caused by sensors and the response time of the actuators.

Have a good reading!

I've read enough, you can have them. You can have all the rest of that drive by wire, computer controlled braking and traction control crap. If you want to give up control of your car, ride a bus.

As it seems that the passage you posted implies that the technology has become useless and undesirable in the races that they used to be utilized in as well, except for people who are not good drivers..

Good Morning, indeed.

(you could have just pasted 1 paragraph and linked to the wiki article)

No.
I don't even look at those cars.
I like old American cars.
Without computer controlled driving aids.

When you give up control to a computer, you are no longer the driver. The computer is. I guess it's a matter of pride.

Well, driving aids question is pretty arguable, but such "i don't even look" philosophy must be named "automotive nacionalism".... cause is just stupid too.

Now you can ban me for "offence on moderator"...

I definitely wouldnt concider myself a professional driver by any means. But...I have driven both the EVO and the STI with the active system. I truely didnt like it. As if we don't have enough to keep up with on our nations highways....driving, eating, sending text, talking to the wife, and checking our gps...all the while.....taking out Granny Gilmore's rose bush while gliding around a curve at mach speed. LOL's. I'm just picking on you man!

I suspect that this question would have gotten better response on a Rally related website somewhere. We're just a bunch of grizzly ol' hotrodders. Hence the name.....

You can believe my lack of interest in new tuner cars is some type of bigotry, but it isn't.
I just have no interest in computer controlled cars.

I answered your initial question because I thought you were asking about something that did interest me, and I could help with. I assumed that you were calling an independent rear end "active". My mistake.

As far as being stupid, ...well, someday I hope to be as smart as you think you are right now.

Have fun dreaming.

Mikey

Mikey
well, maybe it's my mistake, when I decide, that active diff subject is about more effective power to the ground transfer, not about driving aid.

BTW, I consider as driving aid various "parktronics"...and I hate them...

As far as smart, according to one IQ test my level is "above average"
