Thanks for the feedback.
Just woudering:
1) Does the unit tell you what settings it is assuming when you use auto-set?
2) Now that you know how to weld, can you make better welds by selecting your own settings?
Thanks

I saw a basic miller at a pawn shop for 250.00,it looked brand new ,I'll bet it never had a tank hooked up to it.Fine tuning the controls isnt very hard as long as you know what a good weld looks like.

with it autoset "on" you will not know what the wire speed is actually set on.
You will however know what voltage settings are. There is also a chart printed on the inside of the door that has various "set your own settings" for different types of metal.

The autoset is pretty dead nuts on as far as wire speed v.s. heat so I still find its faster and easier to just use this feature. I very seldom need to turn it off and manually set my settings. Stainless is the only example that comes to mind.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the help.
If I can find a used auto-set, it may be worth a little $ more to me.
It is unlikely I'll use another welder since I'm not a pro.
Thanks
