adjust R&P?

Good morning. I have some slop in my Ford power rack. I see what looks lke a thin lock nut - big - and a slotted adjustment "bolt" inside the nut. Is this the way to adjust the rack and get rid of the slop?
Thanks, Robert

Yes, thats how to adjust the backlash between the rack and pinion gear.
I would mark the housing and nut before you start adjusting, only go about 1/4" of adjustment at a time and drive it to make sure it doesn't wander. You'll know it's too tight when the rack won't have any returnability after turns or wanders real bad.
As long as thats your only problem for loose steering anyway , it should help. What year, make, and model?
