Post Advantage of "budget" headers

I own a completely stock 74 Firebird. It has a 350, 2bbl and auto trans. It still performs great, but as couped up as this poor engine is, I've been wanting to add a pair of Heddman Street 1 5/8" headers, dual 2.5" exhaust with magnaflow turbo mufflers, and eventually a 4-bbl Edelbrok carb, with stock Pontiac intake. Eventually, this engince will be taken back to stock condition, but in the mean time, I'd like a little more out of it. However, going the budget way leaves me wondering, is it worth the money? What kind of performance increases would I hope to see, and a big question, is drilling and tapping heads for a header side-bolt absolutely necessary for a good seal. I hope you can help me out.

i would add the four barrel and the mufflers then decide on the headers, yes you do HAVE to drill and tap the outer holes, its a pain, but they(headers)leak bad enuff on a pontiac when all the bolts are in and tight.

The only reason I'm a little leary about the 4bbl is I wonder about the cam, it being stock. And, if getting headers to seal is really that big of a problem, what kinda things aid in making them seal?

i have a solution for your carb problem. since you have a stock cam, then get a four barrel carb theat puts out about 600 cfm maybe less, dont get an edelebrock because those are to hyper for your needs, a good 550-600 cfm 4 barrwel would be good, if your wonder what kind to get, a gm would do just fine.
