Advice on T-350 rebuild please.

I want to do my own rebuild. What book should I buy? What rebuild kit? Any advice on this project would be appreciated. Also want to do a shift improvement kit, not for race, just to firm up the shift. My stock (tired) shifting 350 is slow to move from gear to gear.
