Aftermarket A/C
ok summer time in fordia and my car is A/C-less and its really starting to burn me so i would like abit of info on what exactly am i gonna have to do to get it working the way it should.
now im gonna write a book on the history of the system.
when i was in auto-tech i made an atempt to get my A/C working, i have a 76 camaro and it was previously equiped with a V.I.R. assembly which we removed and used a.. aparently rare.. conversion kit, replacing the V.I.R assembly with a normal dryer, and used a metal block for an orfus and oil drain(or so im told thats what the little tube is). also we replaced the condenser, bought a rebuild A6 axial compressor, and retro to 134A. i wanted to go and replace the evap but through all the contacts i have ever had (school and work + public searching) never managed to find one for my car.
when we did have it working it wouldn't get cold, in the shade engine @ 2.5K RPM the vents where barely 70F with outside temp 90F~, once in the sun it just didn't work anymore. my teachers and i didn't know what else to do, the belt snapped one day and i just never put it back on.
after i go on vacation i want to get this thing working once and for all. and i saw on T.V. a fatermarket A/C system kit, came with brackets to relocate the new style compressor, move the alt, and still have P/S, and had like a all in 1 air box, this IMO would be a last resort but im willing if i must. i want it to be as stock-ish as possable in the cab area, i liked the A/C and alt relocation brackets though. and since i know ill be running 134a i would like to update it abit. new style compressor if possable, and replace everything else... but getting a new evap seems to be impossable
yea i know this gonna be expencive
so what would be the best way of going about this?
anyone know where i can get a new evap for my car?
and anyone know how i can update the system abit, like one of them bracket kits ect?
thx camaro76
ill try and post a pick of the V.I.R. conversion
