aftermarket keyless entry

my 1998 Ford Ranger has all power options but doesn't have keyless entry ( I tried the program sequence and it doesn't lock and unlock the doors ).. I'd like to have keyless entry, partly because of the convinence, but also because the key tumbler on the passanger side does not work, and the drivers side is a little sticky..

I'd like a system that only has a lock and unlock button, along with a panic button.. no trunk/ aux needed, but dome light and park light controls would be nice ( just like Factory Ford ).. any suggestions as to a brand/ model number?

Matt - Autoloc makes one (probably distributes the usual Chinese stuff). I have an extra AutoLoc KL800 8 Function Keyless Entry. Take a look on-line and if interested, PM me and we can discuss that way instead of getting the post dumped :pain: .

I am using a universal system I bought mail order for about $40 from Lmctruck.com in 2002. I'm not sure its Autoloc, or just a similar brand. The cheap driver's door actuator has failed once, so I had to buy a new one for about $5. Other than that it works fine.

The driver's door actuator is a five wire combo, so that when I push down that lock knob it also locks the other door. This is convenient to use as you get out of the car. It also has an output that will flash a relay twice for lock and once for unlock. The remote buttons are unlock/lock only.

In general, these systems all use cheap plastic actuators. They work, but are not as durable as OEM Ford actuators. You also have to figure out the right mounting geometry so that the actuator plunger pushes the lock mechanism rod up and down without binding. Its not hard, but it takes a little experimentation to get it lined up.

my truck has factory power locks and windows. so I should just need to tap the wiring for the factory actuators.

I ended up buying a Audiovox AA925 which is a simple 3 function. lock, unlock w/ parking flash, dome illumination and horn sounding.. also can control an aux. which I will probably put an audiovox remote start in before winter.. the unit has good reviews altho it has been discontinued as of like 2 years ago. but I got it for $21.72 shipped
