Aggression

Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed that lately we are getting a lot of dis-respect and aggression towards long-time Members (from relatively new Members)? I don't remember it being this way, say, a Year ago-I wonder what's up with that?

Seems to me we might be getting more trash talking and name calling without a lot of substance to back it up. Personally I like the give and take of decently researched positions on various matters (political, religious, social issues etc.). It's been my experience that the trash talking and name calling enters the picture when someone has strong feelings on an issue but a lack of solid and well documented evidence to back them up.

If a person has a well reasoned position and good resources to support their conclusion(s), you'll seldom hear them calling other people names.

So take THAT you %&**#$@* son of a $%^&*#ing bas&^%$*()#

I should mention, that new members should read the 1st couple of posts in this thread...................We would hate to have to start naming names and directing them here....... ...Stuff like..."That idea is stupid" and "That is crap" is NOT a way to make friends or get respect.

Thats not what we are talking about....We have a few brand new members here that jump in on some tech questions with that attiutude. No one is going to listen or respect a brand new person on the boarc that comes with an attitude. If you feel someones idea is wrong, its Ok to dissagree, but feel out the situation a bit first....Its called diplomacy and respect.

HaHa....Some people, we naturally know what to expect...........

Its these new people that come on here, all full of themselves, and when you read their typing, you can tell right off the bat, that they are just uneducated slobs, that would be lucky to be able to spell their own names, never mind the word "probably"...............BTW, thats my pet peeve....If I see it spelled ..."prolly" one more time, I am going to explode.....................

RANT OVER......................

LOL! I feel the exact same way. That and "tho" drive me nuts.

But ya know... There are some persnickety princesses on this site who get their underwear in a knot over nothing, then crybaby to the moderator to save them from keyboard bullies.

Look, this ain't the grade school playground anymore. Stop running for the teacher every time you skin your knee!

I would respectfully disagree. There is simply no need for name calling or disrespect in the tech forums...nor even here in "off topic" for that matter. Those who prefer this sort of treatment can find plenty of forums on the internet where the discussion is mean spirited and in the gutter.

HR.Com is is "Moderated" site and it is moderated for a reason. To prevent flame wars, name calling, questionable language and general disrespect. And by preventing this sort of discussion it keeps a lot of us "persnickety princesses" around to ask questions and contribute to the superb knowledge base we have here.

One of the primary reasons I've stayed with HR.Com over the years is their "low tolerance" policy for trolls, baiters, foul language, disrespect. The fact is, it takes no more effort to be courteous and respectful in a post than it does to use X rated language and a smart mouthed attitude.

So I don't consider Jon's efforts to keep this site free of that sort of language and discussion as "nothing", as you suggest. I think the reason we have some 50,000 members and arguably the best hot rod site on the web, is precisely BECAUSE Jon pays strict attention to these matters - as do the Mods.

In my opinion.....The person making the snide and derogatory remarks is only making himself look inferior...............because, he or she can't express themselves any better.

Putting someone else down, doesn't make you look any better
