air bag setup on 50 merc?

Hi

Having a ton of bottoming out on my 50 merc. Has original front end with dropped spindle/disc kit on it from fatman. Here in NY we have some rough roads. There is a good skid plate under it but i am afraid of damaging other parts let alone it scares the crap out of me when I hit a bump.

So what are my options as I like the way it is from a stance standpoint. Airbag setup? Dump the spindles? I cannot continue to drive it as is. frame is too low to ground to drive. What can I do?

Can provide pics as soon as daylight hits.

thanks!
Kevin

BAG IT! You can enjoy the same stance when cruising around town and when you need to lift it up a little bit for a certain location you can. Your car will basically be more reliable to you. You will need to purchase nice quality products and have a very quality installation for the setup to be an everyday reliable vehicle. Your Merc will get superlow and raise almost to stock height. I am a huge advocate of air ride as it is a huge staple to my business, so maybe I am a little biased. I think that air ride would be a wise decision for anyone that enjoys a low vehicle and the practicality of being able to drive your car. I will be more than to help you out with any of your questions.

do you have any recommendations on what type of system/manufacturer I should be looking for? How about a rough idea on cost with installation?

Thanks

OK, it's a little newer than yours...

Kosmo, take a look Here

When I bought my bags and made my own mounts Air Ride did'nt have a kit for the Fifties cars. I gave the rep at K-zoo my cardboard patterns, and suddenly they now have a kit....

If you just want up and down, buy the bags, and plumb it with hardware store ball valves as I did. You can rig up an A/C compressor like mine to cycle thru a standard air compressor switch, to fill whenever the motor is running.
I have individual valves on each bag, on a common manifold made from plumbing tees and short nipples. One valve on each end of the manifold allows for filling, and the other allows for dumping.

I should have been clearer...

Should read ' I gave my patterns to the Air Ride company rep at the NSRA Kalamazoo Street Rod National event'...

I have about $60 each in the front #2600 double-convolute bags, and about $45 each in the rear #1700 tapered-sleeve bags. I got my valves for $5 apiece at Menards, and misc. plumbing fittings ate up another $30.

By the time I figure incidentals like the rubber air lines I got thru Harbor Freight to hook it all up I figure I have less than $400 in the whole system, including the steel for the bag mounts I fabricated.

Hi

So what is the company you gave the plans to or has the kit? I am not that handy to do something like this but trying to get all details to have someone do it hopefully in NY.
