I was just wondering what you guys and gals thought about this. I have a 92 S10 with 4.3 and i was thinking about getting a open element air cleaner for it....would it be better than the stock setup. With the open element u would probably get more air but it would be warmer and on the stock the air would be cooler but not as much and the air is pullled thorugh just one spot on the air filter. I just want to hear your opinions thx

re: air cleaner prefrence
I use the open cleaners on everything.
Of course, I'm not exactly in the Banana Belt here. |

re: air cleaner prefrence
If ya can get air out of the hot engine compartment ("z28" style hoodscoop, prop the back of the hood up with a few washers, just cut a hole in the thing, etc.) it should be even more effective, but underhood air temps will still rise if the vehicle isn't moving. When it is, cool air goes through the grille (gets heated a bit by the radiator) and pases by the air filter and exits out whereever.
I think an engine compartment without some sort of way for engine compartment air to get out would be hotter than my idea, especially when travelling. |
