Air Compressor Question

I am having some trouble judging if an air compressor will meet my painting needs. I'm only going to be painting a motorcycle gas tank (Hotrodders like bikes too, right?). I plan on using an Astro evo spry gun, the rating is 7.8 CFM @ 40 psi. The compressor I plan on using has the brand name Air America, when I looked it up it brought up Devilbiss parts. The compressor is a 4HP 12 Gallon (Model Number: FB412-1), rated at 7.8 CFM @ 40 psi. Even though the tank is only 12 gallon, will running the compressor constantly make this setup work? I understand that this compressor has a 50% duty cycle, but painting a gas tank shouldn't take too long. Thanks for your time.

You should buy the biggest compressor you can afford. They are so handy. That said.. You should be fine just panting your tank with that. It does not take much for cycle parts.

Thanks for the reply. I already have this compressor lying around and can't justify buying a quality one for painting at the moment. Otherwise I would just get one that could do the job right. Thanks again.

The size of the tank has no bearing on the capabilities of the compressor. That should do fine for that gas tank. For painting a whole car, you would probebly have problems.
