air line fittings

this may be a dumb question, but it has me stumped. How do you get the airline out of a compression fitting? It is one of those types like used on air ride lines where there is a plastic piece in a metal fitting and the line just pushes in. The line cracked and I wanted to shorten it without buying a new fitting. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

push in gently on the hose, push in on locking collar (plastic piece), then pull out hose.

He said it was an compression fitting.

You will need to open it up. Cut the farrel off and shorten your line. You will need a new crush collar and the metal insert if it is DOT. If not it just has a farrel. These are really cheap. You will not be able to save that part.
