Air restriction

I went over to friend's house last night to check on a paint gun problem, seems that a second or so after triggering the gun his air flow would drop slightly. He was using the Harbor Freight "purple" gun hooked to a 3/8" hose with the right quick couplings similar to what JC recommended a while back. He had a 1/2" line from the compressor reduced to 3/8" going into a hose reel that had 50' of 3/8" hose, so far so good. Here's the problem, he used a hardware store reducer made for water pipe on the 1/2" line going into the 3/8" fitting at the reel. This cheaply made (China, Taiwan or some such place) was a 3/8" fitting on the outside but the inside was a different story it was choked down to 1/4" or maybe even less at one point. The point here is to use QUALITY fittings from start to finish since all it takes is one spot to choke down the whole system and in this case one could not see any problem by looking at the plumbing until we took it all apart. Just a little something to think about.
